Volunteer Trail-Work Days
PPWT Trail Volunteers come through again!
Our seventh annual volunteer trail-work day in the Pierce Pond watershed was held on Saturday, July 20, 2024. (While we usually schedule the work day for the last Saturday in July, conflicts necessitated scheduling it a week earlier this year. )
Once again, dedicated PPWT member-volunteers committed their time, tools, energy, and talent to maintaining and improving watershed trails for the rest of us.
The crews had a great time while getting a lot done! Our energetic volunteers completed significant trail maintenance and improvements on the Three Ponds Loop Trail and the Otter Pond Mountain Trail. Their accomplishments included the following:
> brushing ~2.3 miles of the Three Ponds Loop Trail,
> brushing ~1 mile of Otter Pond Mountain Trail,
> stabilizing stringers on a puncheon,
> re-setting two bog bridges,
> installing two rock step stones, and
> rebuilding ten feet of scree to protect fragile vegetation.
PPWT Coordinator Jerry Bley, PPWT Stewardship Coordinator Rachel Cheatham-McFadden, and PPWT Intern Sam Foye organized and led the following hard-working volunteers, who have earned heartfelt thanks from the Pierce Pond community:
Hannah Abbe Margie Pikaart
Beth Ekstrom Ryan Scruton
Steve Estes Larry Valentine
Courtney Mendum Mackenzie Williams
